Southwest Voter Registration Education Project, in the midst of its year long celebration of its 35th anniversery, was saluted on the field by the Los Angeles Dodgers on September 16th, 2009. In front of a sellout crowd, the Dodgers announced: "Please join the Los Angeles Dodger Family in honoring the Southwest Voter Registration Education Project on their 35th anniversary. SVREP is America's most successful nonpartisan voter registration group. Represented on the field with us today by President Antonio Gonzalez and Steven Ochoa, SVREP has made us all proud by registering two and a half million voters over the last generation. We salute SVREP and wish them success in making our democracy stronger." Among the crowd were 350 SVREP supporters in the stands, who helped support SVREP's voter registration work by purchasing tickets for the game or SVREP's successful "A Taste of the America's" Benefit held earlier in the year.
