Latinos Celebrate Earth Day By Mobilizing The Vote For Mayoral Election
(15,000 Voters Registered in L.A. So Far)
April 15, 2005 (Los Angeles, CA) – Southwest Voter Registration Education Project (SVREP) will be joined by the CLVC Education Fund, Bomberos de L.A. County, the Anahuak Youth Soccer Associaton and members of the community to celebrate Earth Day and register voters for the upcoming Los Angeles Mayoral Election on April 24, 2005 at Lincoln Park/Lincoln Heights. The volunteers will gather for breakfast and conduct voter registration at 100 local churches. The Community Canvass will kick-off the SVREP Earth Day Community Festival which will run through 6:00p.m. “Environmental awareness and political empowerment go hand in hand,” said Antonio Gonzalez, the President of Southwest Voter Registration Education Project. “We are bringing together hundreds of volunteers Sunday morning to visit our Los Angeles area churches to register thousands of voters. Since last September, we have registered 15,000 new voters in the city of Los Angeles,” continued Gonzalez.
The Earth Day Community Festival is free and open to the public. Lincoln Park/Lincoln Heights is located at 3501 Valley Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90031.
