SVREP Targets 50,000 Latinas for the Primary

(March 3, 2008) San Antonio, Texas. Southwest Voter Registration Education Project (SVREP) has targeted Latina voters for a nonpartisan Get-Out-The-Vote (GOTV) campaign in Bexar, Cameron, Hidalgo, El Paso, Nueces, Maverick, Valverde, and Webb counties as part of its Latina Vote Campaign.

"Latina Vote 2008 is a signature voter engagement campaign running throughout the election cycle. Latinas will help determine this election," said Antonio Gonzalez, SVREP President.

SVREP kicked off the Latina Vote campaign last year as part of its overall effort to increase the number of Latinas participating in America's democracy. Its slogan, Cuando Vota Una Latina, Vota Una Familia says it all – when Latinas vote, so does her family. SVREP will mobilize 100,000 new Latina voters in preparation for the 2008 general election.

"Latinas will vote in the Texas primary election in record numbers, they understand that this election will impact their families directly," said Lydia Camarillo, SVREP Vice President.

SVREP contacted 50,000 Latina voters with a nonpartisan turnout message in Bexar, Cameron, Hidalgo, El Paso, Nueces, Maverick, Valverde, and Webb counties with mail, live phone calls, robo calls, email and text messages both in preparation for the early vote and Election Day.

The Latina Vote Campaign was made possible by the generous support of Barbara Lee through the Boston Foundation.

SVREP is the largest nonpartisan, nonprofit organization of its kind in the United States. Since its inception, SVREP has registered over 2.3 million Latinos. SVREP has offices in Los Angeles, California; San Antonio, Texas; Albuquerque, New Mexico; and Miami, Florida. For more information, see www.svrep.org
