Sabor de las Americas Raises $200,000 for SVREP's Latino Vote 2016-17 Campaigns
May 13th, Los Angeles, CA - The Southwest Voter Registration Education Project (SVREP) launched its Latino Vote 2016 National Election Campaign on May 13, 2016 before 200 donors and supporters at the LA River Center in Los Angeles raising some $250,000 for nonpartisan Latino voter registration campaigns in California in summer/fall of 2016 and spring of 2017.
SVREP’s fundraising benefit Taste of the Americas/Sabor de las Americas celebrated its Copper (8th) Anniversary with speeches from US Congresswoman Judy Chu.
SVREPs grassroots mobilization is currently setting up a dozen voter registration committees in Los Angeles County as well as several more North and Eastern Texas. Fundraising is underway to develop Latino Vote projects in south Florida, north Georgia, Colorado, southern New Mexico, Arizona, and southern Nevada.
Hosted by Aura Vasquez Mistress of Ceremonies, Sabor de las Americas took place at the magical LA River Center and Gardens nestled in Cypress Park along the LA River. The weather was a perfect ally to this outdoors garden-style event of good food, good politics, and good company. Major support was provided by the California Community Foundation, Entravision Media, The Gas Company, Southern California Edison, Joe Perez and Associates, Walmart and many many others.
